Netwell Centre

Established in 2005, the Netwell Centre is part of the School of Nursing, Midwifery, Health Studies and Applied Sciences. The centre hosts the Nestling Project – a collaborative initiative between DkIT, the Health Services Executive and the Local Authority and part funded by the Atlantic Philanthropies. The Netwell Centre promotes Social Networks, Environments and Technologies for Wellness and ageing-in-place. Its aim is to provide a regional centre of excellence for the applied research, development and application of innovative service models and technologies to support older-people to age-in-place in their own homes.

Current Research

The Netwell Centre undertakes a broad range of related research and development assignments aimed at reinforcing its centre of excellence goals.

Existing activities include:

• The Nestling Project;
• Netwell Interreg IIIa programme;
• The WHO Age - Friendly Cities Project;
• HSE expert committee on sheltered Housing;
• Joint HSE/NCAOP/Dept of Health committee for the development of a national falls strategy;
• BMW Region - Research Briefings on Geron-technology;
• Irish Hospice Foundation – Hospice Friendly Hospitals Programme;
• Dublin City Council – Lord Mayor’s Initiative on Ageing.
